Karate International & S.K.A. Karate Club Tournament
Sunderland - 9th October 2005

On Sunday 9th October 2005 the Lambton Street Fellowship Centre in Sunderland was the venue for the first Karate International Black Belts Schools' competition to be held outside of Leeds.

The event was organised by Derek Laing of Sunderland Karate Academy under the guidance of Steve Leak, Chief Instructor of Karate International, and proved to be an enormous success with over 100 people attending from clubs around the Northern area.

The event started and finished on time, and by using two areas the eliminations were able to move along quickly, thanks to the officials and referees. The competition was run using the W.K.F. rules with some slight changes. The main change was a no facial attack rule in the kumite sections and thankfully the first aid people had very little to do thoughout the day. The standards for the day were very high, especially as some of the competitors were competing for the first time.
